Who is hal.dll, and why does he hate my computer?

This might be the last post for a while. Last night, my computer decided that I had a missing or corrupted hal.dll file, and now I can't get it to boot up, much less open the pod bay doors. I've armed myself with some diagnostic and repair tools, and hope to have it fixed, but you never know.

Of course, if I get into real trouble, I can always go to Microsoft. They're always really helpful.

Bwahahahahahahahahaha! Ow. Laughing that hard is rough on your innards.

You can get a copy of the file here:

http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?hal

OR just boot up in "safe mode" and go to a restore point. If that doesn't work, boot up from the XP CD and reinstall the hal.dll file.

If that doesn't work, you may have to reinstall Windows XP into a new folder, put the new install as the 1st boot option, then copy the file over to the original folder and reset the boot order, which ought to keep your programs and files the way they were.

Next time, don't try to get change for a dollar from the "A" drive.

Yeah, I downloaded that file and have it ready to install. And, while I don't have an install CD because Dell in their wisdom decided that they're not necessary anymore (you know, because Windows NEVER crashes), I'm going to take one home from work. Hopefully, that'll do it.
